Dr. Shaji Ponnambathayil

Dr Shaji Ponnambathayil is extensively trained in the fields of gastrointestinal and HPB surgery, liver and multi organ transplantation. After his medical graduation from Government Medical college Trichur he was trained in General surgery at Government Rajaji Medical College Madurai. He obtained DNB super speciality degree in GI surgery (surgical Gastroenterology) from the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre (BMHRC). Subsequently he completed a fellowship in Abdominal organs transplantation surgery at University Hospital Cambridge, UK.

He worked in the departments of Gastrointestinal surgery at MIMS Calicut and later at Amrita Institute of Medical science, Kochi before he joined PVS memorial Hospital. He is highly experienced in his field and regularly performs all advanced gastrointestinal surgeries including Upper GI, Colorectal, HPB, Advanced Laparoscopic surgeries and Abdominal Organs Transplantations [Liver (Live and Deceased Donor), pancreas, kidney, small bowel and Multi-visceral Block transplantations]. He also performs Vascular Access Surgeries routinely.

His areas of interests are liver and pancreas resections, Abdominal organs transplantation and advanced laparoscopic surgeries. He is a faculty for DNB super specialty training in Gastrointestinal surgery. Dr Shaji has been involved in research in the field of gastrointestinal surgery and HPB; and has published extensively.
